About Me

PortraitI graduated from Kingston University with a First Class honours degree in Media, Culture and Digital Communications and after creating a well-received promotional DVD series I joined the team at Spectrecom where my primary role was to research, and project manage corporate productions. I've since developed into a strong editor and have worked on a hundreds of different promotional programmes for a large number of clients, as well as a TV shows and short films. In an additional role, I administer and teach students attending training programmes, as well as overseeing the building and maintaining of our website, including the implementation of online video.

Away from work, I'm avid fan of horror films, and am currently developing a series of short films alongside my brother in this genre. Further to this, I'm a guitar player, avid gym member, and a saddo film collector (as well as spending too much time gaming).

… Or horror films that you probably haven’t seen, but definitely should have.

This 2006 horror flick, directed by Andrew Currie, will be the first entry to the DVD Pit, a place where lesser known but great films inhabit.

Imagine an alternative reality, where zombies are not only a common sight, but a household pet. Well that’s the premise for Fido, a great little film that’s got an incredibly appealing 1950’s era look to it, and a real eye to detail. The story concerns Timmy Robinson and his new best friend, a zombie named Fido (Billy Connelly), who has been taken on as a family pet. Controlling Fido is easy at first, thanks to an electronic tag that keeps him in check, but a run in with a couple of local bullies looks to put a stop to that, and when organisation Zomcom comes into the picture, Timmy might just have a fight on his hands to keep his beloved zombie.

The marketing for this film has done it no favours, and indeed the DVD cover is so non-descript it could surely be looked over for being tacky, cheap and unappealing. It’s a shame because it’s a film that, although a little niche, has a much broader appeal than you’d expect. As well as ticking all the boxes for a horror-comedy, it’s a sweet boy and his dog type tale that never takes itself too seriously. You pretty much know that if Billy Connolly takes a role as a ‘zombie’ in a horror then something more to it than meets the eye, and that’s certainly the case with this little gem.

Seek this one out, even if you’ve only got a passing interest in horror. 7/10

I saw the box in a magazine advert and I thought to myself "that zombie looks like Billy Connolly - it can't be".

While I decide exactly what I want to do with my new mini-site, I thought I'd use this opportunity to say a quick 'welcome to my domain', in order to get things moving along.

It's quite possible you're here because you're a film fan, which is at least one thing you have in common with me. If that's the case, then it may help if I point you in the direction of some other fantastic news/reviews sites that are regular haunts for me.

To start with, have you tried Slash Film? It's a fantastic little blog that's grown and grown and is now becoming one of the most important film sites around. Ran by fan Peter Sciretta, it's a regular visit for me in order to get news, gossip and reviews, as well as links through to lots of cool film related stuff.

As well as the the site everybody loves to hate (Ain't It Cool) another favourite of mine is Jo Blo's. It ticks all the boxes for mainstream cinema, as well as offering other sites including "Arrow in the Head" (for horror), DVD Clinic (for the obvious), and "Movie Hotties" (for those of us who can't get enough of hot looking stars).

For horror fans you've got Bloody Disgusting and Fear.net to get you heart's racing, as well as Film Drunk for those who are looking for a more 'humorous' take on Hollywood.

Well... Those should get you going for the meantime, while I shuffle around this Crypt and dig out a few juicy articles and stories for you all to read (or not, as the case may be). Feel free to add any other of your favourite movie related sites to this list, because there's undoubtedly some greats that I'm not looking at.

What the hell is that picture from? Happy

The infamous Troll 2. Arguably the worst film ever made, and the subject of a great looking new documentary. Might just be the inspiration for my next article.

Oh, and welcome. Happy

I seem to remember the indignity of reviewing that picture...
